Sneasel Limited Research Day in ‘Pokemon GO’: Start/End Times, Shiny, Research, And Sinnoh Stones

For whatever reason, Limited Research Days usually catch me off guard.

Today we honour the Sneasel, a strange little creature that is linguistically linked to the word “weasel” yet does not resemble a Weasel.

It also evolves into Weavile, a fairly handy tiny monster in PvE with an interesting Ice/Dark-typing that allows it to be helpful in a wider range of scenarios than you might imagine.

Ice, for example, is effective against both Flying and Dragon-type Pokemon, which make for a significant number of Legendary Pokemon. But first, let’s go through everything you need to know.

To begin, on January 30, Limited Research Day will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. local time. That’s a long time, so you should have plenty of time to stock up if you want.

So, in a nutshell, Limited Research Day is all about research, as you might expect. The first is timed research, which consists of a slew of very simple chores that all result in a Sneasel encounter.

This appears to make things a little more equitable for folks who don’t have a lot of Pokestops around.

Leekduck has a list of all the Timed Research steps and prizes, and you’ll see that you get a Sinnoh Stone for two of them: you’ll need it to acquire your Weavile.

In addition to Timed Research, we have Field Research that is only available during the event and rewards Sneasel encounters. With all of that, you should be able to significantly improve your chances of obtaining a shiny or, better yet, two.

When you see the shiny, it’ll be easy to spot: it’s a bright pink version, a far cry from the generally muted navy that Sneasel comes in. If you evolve it, you’ll get a gorgeous, bright red Weavile.

That should be sufficient to get you started, so good luck, complete your chores, and collect as many Sneasel as possible. I’m still working on getting my skiier platinum medal, therefore I’m looking for as many Ice-types as possible.
