49ers mock draft: Many people were startled when the San Francisco 49ers selected quarterback Trey Lance with the third overall choice in the 2021 NFL Draft on Thursday evening in Cleveland.

49ers mock draft Lance will eventually replace Jimmy Garoppolo as the 49ers’ starting quarterback, maybe as early as the 2021 season. San Francisco’s brass is hoping to find a franchise quarterback in the process.

With that said, head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch still have work to do. Over the following two days of the NFL Draft, San Francisco will have eight more picks.

I’ve updated my mock draught below, focusing on what San Francisco should do.
Asante Samuel Jr., cornerback, Florida State, second round, 43rd pick

As the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft came to a close, the 49ers engaged in prospective trade-up talks.

The targets appeared to be new Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris and Tennessee Titans cornerback Caleb Farley. Before San Francisco could justify a trade up, both were off the board.

Rather, the 49ers select the best slot corner in the draught as well as a player who can play on the outside.

Samuel, despite his 5-foot-10 size, has the potential to be a huge success in the NFL. On the outside, he already has plus-level technique and outstanding cover skills.

With Richard Sherman set to go in free agency, Samuel Jr. would be a good addition who could contribute right away. Deonte Brown, guard, Alabama, third round, 102nd pick

Brown, who weighs 344 pounds, doesn’t appear to be a good fit for the 49ers at first glance.

In their zone-blocking strategy, they rely on more athletic offensive lineman. As a way to recoup funds from the blockbuster move to the third pick, I expect San Francisco to consider trading out of this selection to gain future draught picks.

With that in mind, Brown would be far too difficult to pass up with the 102nd choice.

During his time with the Crimson Tide, he was an amazing freak show, and now he’s a good pass protector. Brown’s selection could solve San Francisco’s problems at right guard in the long run.

Demetric Felton, UCLA wide receiver, fourth round, 117th pick

This is the projection I feel most confidence in out of all of them. During the pre-draft process, the 49ers met with the 5-foot-9 Felton via Zoom many times, and he is expected to move from running back to slot receiver in the NFL.

With Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk projected to start outside, it’s a clear necessity for the 49ers.

Felton racked up over 1,700 total yards in 18 games for UCLA the past two seasons. In the process, he added 77 receptions. Felton, who impressed during the Senior Bowl with his route-running abilities, would be an ideal fit for the 49ers as a versatile all-around player.

Mock Draft for the San Francisco 49ers, Rounds 5-7

Michal Menet, Penn State Center, fifth round, 155th pick Despite signing free agent Alex Mack, the 49ers will look to add a centre in what is a stacked NFL Draft class at the position.

If that’s the case, Menet would be the best choice for Round 5. The 301-pound lineman was a two-time team captain and anchored the Penn State offensive line throughout his career.

His athleticism fits the 49ers’ zone-blocking scheme nicely, and he can even play guard in a pinch.

Chauncey Golston, EDGE, Iowa, fifth round, 172nd selection

Golston, one of the most underrated edge rushers in the NFL Draft, was a constant force in opposition backfields during his three seasons with Iowa, recording 26 tackles for loss.

As a massive defensive end behind Nick Bosa, he also fits the 49ers’ defensive strategy perfectly. This would be a fantastic deal Derrick Barnes, linebacker, Purdue, fifth round, 180th pick

Behind Dre Greenlaw and All-Pro Fred Warner, the arrival of free agent Nathan Gerry does little to change the fact that San Francisco needs depth at inside linebacker.

Barnes, like Golston, would be an excellent fit. Barnes was a three-year starter for Purdue, playing both outside and inside linebacker.

He made 219 tackles and 25 tackles for loss in the process. He was once a special teams performer, but he’d be a good fit in Round 5.

Tariq Thompson, a safety from San Diego State, was selected 194th overall in the sixth round.

San Francisco appears to have no need for a safety after re-signing Jaquiski Tartt and signing free agents like Tavon Wilson and Obi Melifonwu.

That’s only the tip of the iceberg. All three are on one-year deals with little room for growth in the future. Thompson, on the other hand, isn’t like that.

During his four years at San Diego State, he has 23 pass deflections and 11 interceptions, and he has outstanding covering skills.

Pooka Williams, Kansas running back, was selected in the seventh round, 230th overall.

When it comes to acquiring a running back late in the NFL Draft, San Francisco’s choice to sign Wayne Gallman in free agency complicates things. Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson’s presence adds another element to this.

Williams is still my draught infatuation. He’s also a great fit in the 49ers’ system and can contribute right away as a returner. We’re talking about a youngster with game-changing ability who has the potential to make an immediate impact.
