Vaccine passports will make hesitant people ‘even more reluctant to get jabbed’ | Coronavirus

Imposing vaccine passports is likely to make hesitant people even more reluctant to get Covid jabs, research involving more than 16,000 people has found as Downing Street vowed to press ahead with the plan within a month. Boris Johnson announced in July that the government would make it compulsory for nightclubs and other crowded indoor venues to ensure customers have been fully vaccinated before allowing them entry. No details have yet been published, prompting speculation the plan would be ditched in the face of a backlash from Conservative backbenchers and business groups. But the prime minister’s official spokesperson said on Tuesday there was no change in the policy. “We set out broadly our intention to require vaccination for nightclubs and some other settings. We will be coming forward in the coming weeks with detail for that,” he said. As well as helping to protect clubbers from the virus, the move is aimed at boosting vaccine uptake – but the research, to be published in

Former Miss India Universe Pari Paswan alleges Mumbai-based production house drugged her, filmed her porn video

Former Miss India Universe 2019 winner Pari Paswan has accused a Mumbai-based production house of drugging her and shooting her porn video while she was intoxicated. After realising what happened to her, she informed the Mumbai Police. This news comes after last month, Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra was accused of producing porn videos by the Mumbai police. Pari hails from Jharkhand and had come to Mumbai in search of work when the alleged incident took place. She told newstracklive.com, “There I was drugged in cold drinks and made a dirty video of me. When I came to know about it, I went to the Mumbai Police and complained.” She added that the case is still going on in Mumbai police. “There is a gang in Mumbai who cheat girls and make videos wrongly and go viral. I am a victim in that case. Even after learning about this, I have lodged an FIR against the gang members for justice at Malwani police station there,” stated Pari. Pari had recently been in the news for a dispute wit

Stranded in Kabul, Afghanistan: A US Resident Runs Out of Options

WASHINGTON — For more than a week, Samiullah “Sammy” Naderi, a U.S. legal permanent resident, waited days and nights with his wife and son outside the airport in Kabul, Afghanistan, hoping to be let in so that they could leave on one of the dozens of daily flights headed to America. “It’s 50 feet away,” Mr. Naderi, 23, said Sunday night in a short telephone interview, speaking in halting English, as gunfire crackled in the background. “Maybe the Taliban will let me inside — maybe.” But on Monday, after being told that no more people would be allowed inside the airport gate, Mr. Naderi and his family returned to their apartment in Kabul with no clear path back to Philadelphia, where he has been living since last year. “All flights are closed,” he said with an incredulous laugh. “I am scared.” Mr. Naderi is among at least hundreds of U.S. citizens and potentially thousands of green card holders who are stranded in Afghanistan at the end of a 20-year war that culminated not in a rel

Restaurant owners say hiring is becoming an increasing challenge

After a dire 2020, the restaurant industry is staging a comeback, but headwinds will likely keep it from bouncing back to 2019 levels, a new report shows. The National Restaurant Association projects restaurant and food service industry sales will jump nearly 20% to $789 billion this year, from $659 billion in 2020. But the projection is still far below pre-pandemic sales of $864 billion, the group said in its midyear “State of the Industry” report. Pent-up consumer demand, stimulus payments and vaccine availability fueled restaurant sales in the first half of the year and helped restaurant owners climb back from the losses the industry faced during the early months of the health crisis. But serious challenges such as labor shortages and rising food and fuel costs are limiting gains. Even more worrisome, a resurgence in Covid-19 cases in recent weeks is clouding the picture for the months ahead. It has delayed plans for some companies to return to the office, limited travel and co

CryptoPunks creator inks representation deal with major Hollywood talent agency – TechCrunch

One of Hollywood’s biggest talent agencies is getting into the NFT game. Larva Labs, the creator of CryptoPunks, just signed with United Talent Agency (UTA) in a representation deal that will bring one of the earliest and most iconic NFT projects into the entertainment and branding worlds. “I would say that it is one of the first opportunities for an IP that fully originated in crypto-world to enter a broader entertainment space, and they earned it,” head of UTA Digital Assets Lesley Silverman told The Hollywood Reporter. “They really have hit the zeitgeist in a tremendous way.” The deal could see CryptoPunks popping up across film, TV, video games and other licensing areas. Larva Labs’ other art projects, Meebits and Autoglyphs, will also be represented by UTA moving forward. The terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. As speculative investment in NFTs explodes, CryptoPunks remain one of the most recognizable — and valuable — pioneers in the space. Larva Labs launched 10,000 of the

Welsh teen in hospital with Covid targeted online by anti-vaxxers | Coronavirus

A 17-year-old in hospital with coronavirus has said she has been targeted by anti-vaxxers and conspiracy theorists on social media after urging young people to have the vaccine. Maisy Evans said she has been accused of being a “liar” and an “actress paid by the government” by online trolls. The teenager has had symptoms including dizziness, shortness of breath, headaches, a loss of smell and taste, as well as suffering a Covid-related blood clot on her lung. She tested positive for the virus on 14 August, three days after having her first Pfizer jab. However, doctors have insisted her illness and her blood clot are unrelated to the vaccine. Evans, from Newport, south Wales, told Sky News: “I’ve had to deal with a lot of anti-vaxxers and conspiracy theorists which is deeply frustrating. “I’ve been called a liar, an actress paid by the government to push certain agendas, Satan, a Nazi, evil, and so many more things. “It’s totally uncalled for.” Evans was admitted to hospital on 2

I Was With Kim Kardashian First – Hollywood Life

After blasting Kanye West for cutting him from ‘DONDA,’ Soulja Boy was back at it again – and this time, he taunted Ye with a gross comment about West’s estranged wife, Kim Kardashian. “I might diss u every day for the rest of my life how I’m feeling, [ Kanye West ],” tweeted Soulja Boy on Aug. 31, marking the second day of the (increasingly one-sided) feud between him and Kanye, 44. Apparently, Soulja, 31, was still mad about his verse was cut from “Remote Control,” a track off of Kanye’s DONDA , and the “Crank That” rapper decided to hit Ye where it hurts: by dragging in Kim Kardashian . “I was the first rapper with [Kim Kardashian], not u,” tweeted Soulja, along with a throwback photo of him and Kim, apparently taken in the late 2000s. How Will The US Cope With Taliban Rule?

Even as the United States finalizes its departure from Afghanistan, it faces a dilemma there as wrenching as any during the 20-year war: how to deal with the new Taliban government. The question is already manifest in the debate over how deeply to cooperate against a mutual enemy, the Islamic State branch in the region, known as ISIS-K. Another: Whether to release $9.4 billion in Afghan government currency reserves that are frozen in the United States. Handing the Taliban billions would mean funding the machinery of its ultraconservative rule. But withholding the money would all but ensure a sudden currency crisis and halt on imports, including food and fuel, starving Afghan civilians whom the United States had promised to protect. These are only the beginning. Washington and the Taliban may spend years, even decades, pulled between cooperation and conflict, compromise and competition, as they manage a relationship in which neither can fully tolerate nor live without the other.

There are mounting risks that make September a potentially hazardous time for stocks

Traders on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in New York, on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021. Michael Nagle | Bloomberg | Getty Images After seven months of gains, stocks face plenty of potential risks that could make September live up to its reputation as the worst month of the year for the market. According to CFRA, the S&P 500 has been positive just 45% of the time in September, going back to World War II. The average 0.56% decline in the month is the worst of all months, with February the only other month with an average negative performance. Strategists say it’s not clear a correction or pullback is coming, but the risks have been rising. They include Fed policy changes, the spread of the Covid delta variant and political risks. Liz Ann Sonders, chief investment strategist at Charles Schwab, said it’s too simplistic to assume the market will follow history. “Are there myriad risks out there that at some point in time could be a risk factor that could lead t

PSG view Martial as a potential replacement for Mbappe. According to Spanish media outlet MadridistaReal, Portuguese super-agent Jorge Mendes is attempting to broker a deal that will see Anthony Martial end his six-year stint with Manchester United to join French giants PSG. Real Madrid are rumored to be lining up one final bid for Kylian Mbappe this summer, which could lead to PSG trying to sign a replacement for the 22-year-old. Anthony Martial enjoyed an impressive 2019-20 season for Manchester United, during which he scored 23 goals for the club in all competitions. Martial was expected to lead Manchester United’s front-line last season, but injuries and the arrival of Edinson Cavani saw him fall
