How Photography can enrich your life
How Photography can enrich your life: Becoming a professional photographer can be a daunting task given the fluctuating hours and salary; at the same time, the art of photography can be a form of expression that is its own reward.
Photography can not only capture a moment in time or a memory, but can give the photographer a unique perspective and allow one to notice things in our environment that we usually overlook in our everyday lives. Through the act of both producing and viewing photography, we can connect to the people, places and situations captured in the shot.

In a post on Quora, CEO of Skylum Software Alex Tsepko said photography is a powerful tool in that it immortalizes our memories and allows us to feel connected to loved ones who might otherwise be disconnected from our everyday lives. In addition, it allows us to capture the happy moments which we can relive in order to forget about the negative aspects of everyday life.
“By recording our happiest memories, however, we train ourselves to spend more time thinking about the good things,” he said. “I’m not a doctor, but I find that the more I do this–the more simply interesting or pleasurable moments and images I capture–the happier I am.”
Nova Scotia’s Eileen Richardson developed a love for photography while studying it in college. She continues to practice her passion today and has even donated in the past a number of her photographs to local charities and given her artwork to friends as gifts.
“I am thrilled to be able to give back to the community through my photography, which has been a long-time passion of mine,” said Richardson in an interview, who is CEO of DiaDan Holdings Limited, a private company in Halifax.
It is therapeutic to help others, and artwork brings joy to both the artist and the recipient.”
Indeed, there are even health benefits to taking up photography as a hobby. Along with the physical exercise of walking around looking for the perfect shot, the benefits to mental health can be profound. From anxiety relief to relaxation, photographers express their view of the world through their work the same as a painter, author or musician.
While it may be difficult to make a living selling photographs, the art itself is a reward. Sharing that art with the world enriches the lives of both the photographer and the viewer.
