He separated from his first wife Neelima Azim when their son, actor Shahid Kapoor was three. But the actor couple did not let things get nasty. His relationship with his son, Shahid was always a very positive one. The handsome actor had assisted him when he turned 18, and that time helped them revive their relationship. Pankaj Kapur had said, “As Shahid said, it is very difficult to explain. For a father, to separate from his son is not easy. It was a huge emotional loss for me [the last time around] and I started living with the hope that there will come a time when we will come close to each other again.
