Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 which was scheduled to start on March 29 has been postponed indefinitely as the lockdown in India has been extended till May 3 by the Indian government due to the coronavirus pandemic. IPL had a great start in the year 2008 and since then, it has become one of the biggest sporting events of the world.
The first match of IPL 2008 was played between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore, on today’s date (April 18) and the former New Zealand cricketer Brendon McCullum who played for KKR at that time made history by playing a smashing knock of 158 (13 sixes, 10 fours) runs for which he played only 73 balls.
This superb innings by Brendon McCullum left everyone in a surprised and shocked state as T20 was a new concept at that time. When Brendon was asked about the reactions of people at that time, he said that he exactly didn’t remember the reactions of many people but he remembered how the then skipper of KKR Sourav Ganguly and KKR owner Shah Rukh Khan reacted.
Brendon recalls when he returned to the dugout, Dada told him that his life has changed forever. He said that at that time, he was not able to understand what Ganguly meant but now he completely agrees with him. McCullum revealed that the owner of KKR, the famous superstar Shah Rukh Khan, was also pretty excited and he told the Black Caps cricketer that he will always be with KKR.
However, the Kiwi cricketer was released by the IPL team after playing for some seasons but before the 13th season, he was back in KKR but as the head coach.
