Sanjay Jagdale Reveals How Surprised He Was To See Dhoni’s Confidence Before 2007 T20 ICC WC | RVCJS

MS Dhoni is undoubtedly one of the best skippers that the Indian cricket has ever had and even today he is missed by his fans, especially when a wicketkeeper makes a mistake or the Indian team tastes humiliating defeat. Other than being a good wicketkeeper-batsman, Mahi is one of the best learners of the game which helped him in making a strong team that went on to win the 2011 ICC World Cup.

Team India had a miserable 2007 ICC World Cup and the selectors had to choose the players for inaugural edition of 2007 T20 ICC World Cup. The work of selectors was quite difficult as the three top players of the Indian cricket – Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid made it clear that they should not be considered.

Sanjay Jagdale, the former Indian selector, revealed some interesting details in an interview with a sports portal. He said that in 2007, he was a selector and chairman was Dilip Vengsarkar, they were in England with the Indian team for the ODI series and they had to select the team for the 2007 T20 World Cup.

Sanjay added that as Sourav, Sachin and Rahul were not interested to play in the tournament, a young team was selected and MS Dhoni was given the responsibility of leading the team for the first time.

Sanjay Jagdale stated that he was surprised at the confidence which was shown by MSD when he was made the captain as he said that the team would return only after the winning the T20 World Cup from South Africa. The Indian squad performed in a superb manner under Dhoni’s leadership and won the T20 World Cup by defeating Pakistan in the finals.

MS Dhoni is the only skipper to win all the three ICC trophies – 2007 ICC T20 World Cup, 2011 ICC World Cup and 2013 ICC Champions trophy and he will always be counted among the legendary cricketers, even if he has taken retirement from the international cricket now.
