6 Movies of 2018 That Didn’t Live up to Their Expectations | RVCJS

Every year bollywood releases more than a 1000 films, most of which do great business at the box office. Each year with the amount of movies bollywood makes, some are hits and some are flops. The year 2018 has been good for bollywood so far. This year also we saw some great films like 102 NOT OUT, Dhadak, Gold etc. But there were also movies that either had a great concept and bad direction or a bad concept and great direction. So in this list we will share with you a few such films.

Here are a few movies from 2018 that didn’t turn out to be as great expected

1- Veere Di Wedding

A movie that was supposed to show the strong bond of friendship between 4 girls turned out to be rather disappointing as throughout the movie the drama felt unnecessarily over the top. The film was nothing about the concept but leaned towards adapting American sitcom culture and combining problems of a 90’s bollywood movie protagonist. The audience could not relate to the four women and their lives.

2- Padmaavat

This movie was the most awaited film of the year. From the beginning, the movie was surrounded with controversies and problems. There were scenes that were deleted, Karni Sena also threatened the actress and the director during the shooting of the film. After all the effort put into showcasing the film to the audience, well people were disappointed. There was nothing more to the film than huge sets (was obvious as it’s a Bhansali film) and Ranveer Singh’s acting. The last scene where Deepika along with other women are shown so grandly commiting jauhar made it an even bitter experience.

3- Fanney Khan

This film is inspired from a Dutch film ‘Everybody’s Famous!’. Although the original was nominated for an oscar, Fanney Khan is rather a disappointing adaptation of the same story. The audience anticipated the film would be great because of the star studded cast which included the likes of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anil Kapoor but the film turned out to be a story filled with loads of confusion and fell flat on its face.

4- Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3

The prequels of the movie were rather successful compared to this latest venture of Director Tigmanshu Dhulia. Keeping up with the pervious films of the franchise, this one also tried to show vengeance and tons of drama but lacked in the same. The plot is monotonous and the script had too many loose ends. The movie held a slow pace and failed to live up to its expectations.

5- Bhavesh Joshi

The script was way too dull for a superhero movie. It also seemed as if logic was thrown out of the window. Throughout the film there are many instances like a coder doing a hacker as well as a automobile engineer’s job. The characters of the film lacked empathy as the audience could not connect with their lives.

6- Kaashi

Sharman Joshi’s comeback film was supposed to pack a lot of punch, but alas failed to deliver. The movie although, had an exciting concept, it lacked a lot in terms of screenplay, dialogues and acting. Though the plot is a good one, with Kaashi on the lookout for his long lost sister Ganga, the movie falls short on various different fronts like the music and the direction as well. All in all, Kaashi was a sea of disappointments considering the expectations it had created for itself.

Movies are often compared to gambling, where one can make money despite having a bad script while a good one can make no money at all. Sadly these movies cannot blame it all on their luck, significant lapses in production led to these amazing concepts being lost in the swarm of movies that Bollywood produces each year. What did you think about them? Did we miss out on any? Let us know in the comments below.
